'Cheeky' Solid Wood Toy Storage Chest

The chest has two aged brass effect handles on each side. The refurbishment of this chest included new piano hinges on the lid and also gas struts, so that the lid has a soft close design, which should protect little fingers.

This is a unique piece of furniture that would definitely make a statement in any child's playroom or bedroom.

This piece started life as a plain pine chest, and although pre-loved, was still in excellent condition, so deserved to be preserved and upcycled as it still has many years left to serve its purpose.

I have worked extremely hard preparing this piece prior to hand-painting with a quality chalk paint, complimented by the decorative handles and the colourful jungle scenes and animals. The chest was finally finished with several coats of lacquer to protect the design and ensure it is hardwearing and fit for purpose. Upcycled to a high standard it can be enjoyed and loved for many years to come.

‘Cheeky’ has been lovingly restored by hand, by myself and with this in mind, was preloved and has had a previous life. You may find small signs of wear because when I work on individual pieces of furniture, I consider it a piece of artwork, therefore, I try to encapsulate the past along with maintaining the character. Also there may be slight imperfections or flaws due to the nature of the individual craft being used during the upcycling process which is completely carried out by hand. I believe all of these things to be features that add to the character and uniqueness of each piece I recreate.
